Tiffany Hayes: Championing Excellence, Empowering Communities
“Being great at my last career…because of how I am and who I am as a person, of course I’m going to expect the same from the next thing I’m going to do.” Tiffany Hayes, an exemplar of versatility and excellence–All-Star athlete, entrepreneur, and beacon of inspiration–readies herself to represent Azerbaijan at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Tiffany, not only set to make her mark at the Olympics, also prepares to unveil her latest passion project this summer. In this article, we discuss her recent professional triumphs, driving-forces pushing her forward, and her unique definition of success.
Tiffany, could you share your experience playing in the WNBA then transitioning to Playing in Shanghai? How would you say this impacted your professional career?
“With an increasingly busy schedule, I take advantage of the moments of inspiration I get abroad from such amazing encounters. Connecting with people around the globe continually influences my worldview in such a positive way. In Shanghai, I learned new skills that I maybe might not have without a huge change in lifestyle and work. Being abroad, I found so much inspiration for my personal style and through this, I have been able to find myself through fashion in new ways. This transition wasn’t just about basketball; it was about personal growth and expanding my horizons. As someone who values resilience and compassion, being immersed in different cultures has shaped my perspective and taught me to value basketball as an opportunity to highlight all aspects of myself”

How do you implement skills you’ve learned on the court to professional endeavors you pursue?
“Translating the skills honed on the court into my professional pursuits is integral to my approach. Qualifying for the Olympics, a lifelong dream, sets a new standard for myself across all facets of my life. Representing Azerbaijan is a tremendous honor, especially considering this marks their inaugural representation in basketball—an incredibly exciting milestone. Achieving success in basketball demanded unwavering dedication, perseverance, and time. Upholding this level of excellence is non-negotiable in every endeavor I undertake. Whether on the court or in my community-building initiatives, I am committed to leading with integrity, resilience, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence.”
Looking forward to the Olympics, how do you plan to utilize this moment to highlight your upcoming project and other endeavors you’ve been working on?
“I look forward to some events my team and I will be launching in Paris this summer. Apart from this, this moment serves as an opportunity to showcase community-building efforts back home that I am proud to be a part of. Additionally, the Olympics present a platform to shed light on the significance of my upcoming project, which aims to empower individuals and foster positive change. Through my fashion venture and community work, I aim to inspire others to embrace their uniqueness, celebrate diversity, and make a difference in their communities.”

What is your mission, and how does it guide your work?
“From the beginning, empowering people has always been the focus. Community and pouring back into my community is central in all my work. Stability and community is incredibly important in our communities back home. Developing and pouring into youth is a guiding passion of mine and with the upcoming project this summer, I am excited to work with some local teams in Houston and encourage young kids to pursue their dreams and get connected in their community.”
How do you balance your professional athletic career and your entrepreneurial endeavors?
“In my experience, my professional athletic career and entrepreneurial endeavors are interconnected. Traveling and working in new environments often bring about a period of adjustment, but they also fuel my work ethic and creativity. Shanghai, for instance, stretched me both on and off the court, igniting my drive in all my pursuits. These experiences allow me to gather diverse insights from athletes, creatives, and people I encounter globally, shaping my approach to both my athletic career and entrepreneurial ventures.”
Any advice for athletes pursuing entrepreneurial endeavors and community building efforts?
“For athletes venturing into entrepreneurial endeavors and community building, fostering support networks within our communities at home is vital. For example, during the height of the pandemic, we worked with the community in Atlanta at my basketball gym, getting people connected with basic essential items and creating a safe space there. Showing up and consistency are extremely important. It’s about connecting people with safe spaces and opportunities, especially those who may face barriers to sustained community support.”
Looking ahead, past your project launch and the Olympics, what can we expect from you in the future?
“As I look ahead beyond the launch of my project and the Olympics, I envision a future where I can make a meaningful impact. With an exciting summer ahead and a long-term perspective on my career, a big goal I have is to establish scholarships and explore significant ways to give back to and support my community. I eagerly anticipate sharing the campaign associated with my project, marking the beginning of this thrilling new chapter in my life.”
